1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

So many varied walks with an excellent guide, difficult to pick a high point.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

If you are staying at Costa Mar - these are good basic apartments, mostly for the self catering market although there is a restaurant - bring your own tea,
coffee, shampoo and toiletries etc. There is a Spar nearby. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Benefitted local people in that most hotels and restaurants are locally owned (I assume).

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

the walking trip was excellent as was our guide, Ramon - all the walks were different from each other and well arranged in the schedule. The operator's admin
leaves so much to be desired. I was a late booking and kept waiting for 5 days to know if I was going or not, and I had to call them after chasing them all week. I
found out on the Friday and I was flying a week later. I wasn't the only one! Most people had some sort grumble about their admin, including not being met at the airport. (I've since been told by a regular customer that this is not unusual, but that the trips are good.)

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Our main mode of transport on this trip is our own feet and all other transport is provided by local companies, supporting the local economy, as well as using public buses and taxis on some occasions to reduce the need to charter transport specially to get the group back to the hotel.

All tap water in the Canary Islands is readily drinkable, so we urge customers to take and use a water bottle rather than buying water to reduce pressure on the small islands’ limited resources for dealing with plastic waste.

As a travel company we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key, and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage.

People

We support local industries by vising a bodega, selling honey coloured sweet wine which are located in the unique vineyards of Timanfaya National Park. The local farmers have devised an ingenious way to cultivate wine in this harsh environment, creating funnel shaped pits protected with low dry stone walls in which to grow Malvasia grapes.

Instead of eating in the hotel in the evenings the group will walk into the nearby town of Costa Tequise and try different local restaurants. This is encouraged by the leader and they will make suggestions and arrangements, enabling guests to sample many of the delicious home grown produce grown on the island.

As a company we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of the UK travel industry body AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators.
