1 Reviews of Wellness retreat in Slovakia, Tatra mountains
5 out of 5 stars

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The sometimes very dramatic scenery through which we hiked including one or two magnificent waterfalls.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Take some comfortable, worn-in hiking boots! Although marketed at Beginner and Intermediate hikers, some stretches are quite challenging as they're quite steep and, in some places, rocky underfoot.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Alena, our host and guide is clearly very committed to ensuring that hikers on her holidays have minimal impact on the landscape, and encouraged everyone in the group not to leave even the smallest piece of rubbish behind - which, of course, we didn't. She is also knowledgeable about the flora and fauna in the Tatras, knowledge which lent added depth to our appreciation of, and care for our surroundings.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
It was an excellent, varied holiday, with Alena always attentive to everyone's wellbeing, and willing to go above and beyond her immediate sphere of responsibility to ensure everyone had the best experience possible.
Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
Our aim is to connect people with nature again. To use nature for our own well-being but return our favour by looking after the planet.Tatra Mountains is where our tour packages are mainly orientated. Tatra Mountains are also UNESCO protected, and in order to save the environment and eco systems, swimming in all mountain lakes is prohibited which we are a big supporter of. None of the travellers are therefore allowed to wild swim in the mountain lakes.
In Slovakia, the fauna is beautifully varied and we respect the mother nature and its creatures. We strictly abide by no feeding the wild animals. From ducks, squirrels, mountain foxes, lynxes to bears and wolfs, no matter the animal. Touching or feeding the animals is strictly prohibited.
We also follow no leave no trace policy, where every traveller is responsible for taking their rubbish back with them to the hotel. We encourage taking the rubbish back even if the bins in the national parks are provided. This is to minimise overflowing by other tourists.
Our holidays are mainly active – exploring and enjoying the landscape is mostly done on our feet, minimising the carbon footprint as much as possible. If possible, airport transfers are shared. We take the mountain train (electric) for our hikes as much as we can.
People
Guests are accommodated at a local privately owned mountain hotel. All the restaurants we select to eat at are independent restaurants run by locals, no chains. All of our suppliers are local business owners – from accommodation to airport transfers. If we offer packed lunches, these are also provided by either local cafes or businesses.
If we need an assistance with guiding, we always hire a local (born and bred in Slovakia), knowledgeable and qualified guide. We pay them fairly and above the Slovakian average.
We keep our numbers relatively small – 8-14 travellers for each trip to keep the disturbance to minimum.
Our holidays are created around the high seasons to avoid overcrowding. Crowds can often disturb the fauna, and so none of our holidays are run in July, August and late December due to the high numbers of tourists in the region.
We strive to offer tranquillity and true experience of nature holidays.
