picnic lunch) & a wildlife & whale-watching trip.
Description of Wildlife holiday in the Isle of Mull, Scotland
This five day tailor made holiday to see Isle of Mull wildlife in all its glory starts in Oban, where you will take the ferry over to the island. An island with fecund fauna, you will have the services of naturalist guides, expert in Hebrides wildlife. With two full days of guided wildlife safaris, one will focus on land, with bird watching treats that include golden eagles sweeping over the island’s tranquil valleys and sea eagles dipping in and out of the island’s rocky and sandy bays. The island’s marshlands are perfect habitats for hen harriers and walks on quiet, rural lanes are great times to spot cuckoos, mistle thrush or skylarks. The highlight of your day may be stealthily watching otters at play by the loch shore.
The second guided safari is at sea, this time to go wildlife and whale watching, guided by expert local guides who are also local conservationists. Your trip supports their work to monitor and protect minke whales, dolphins and porpoises as well as basking sharks. On your trip, you will search for all of these species, which frequent the waters off Mull over the summer months. Orca, or killer whales, pass through from time to time if you are very lucky.
Small but perfectly formed, your small hotel resides amidst Tobermorys elegant conservation area. High above the harbour, you can escape the village bustle yet are still just a short walk from Main Street. Sweeping views across the bay can be enjoyed from large comfortable sofas in one of the two guest lounges. With just six small, but beautifully furnished, bedrooms two even have a four-poster bed the friendly owners aim to make your stay a rather luxurious home from home.

Very enjoyable and well organised....The scenery was absolutely stunning even if the weather wasn't great but that's the risk with going to Scotland any time of year. Read full reviewResponsible Travel

On our wildlife holidays, we carefully select our partners to ensure the highest standards in wildlife viewing and conservation. Established over thirty years ago, our whale-watching partner is the most experienced in the UK, and their trips have featured on many TV programmes, including BBC's Coast and recently Ray Mears' "Wild Britain" on ITV. There are always expert local guides onboard who continue to actively conduct a research programme focused on the minke whale, contributing directly to marine conservation. Through this survey, there is now much greater awareness and knowledge about the behaviour of cetaceans off the west coast of Scotland. Of course, it is illegal to hunt whales and sharks in the waters around Britain, which is sadly not the case in some other whalewatching destinations.White-tailed eagles were reintroduced to the West of Scotland three or four decades ago, after serious persecution and trophy-hunting in Victorian times had decimated the once-thriving British population of these magnificent birds. They are now a frequent and impressive sight, soaring over the Isle of Mull. They are successfully breeding and re-establishing themselves in their natural habitat, and are no longer threatened here, as their economic value in bringing visitors to the island is greatly appreciated.
Otters are elusive and rare mammals, but the Isle of Mull has the highest density anywhere in the UK, so there are reasonable chances of spotting them at play or at rest, especially when accompanied by our knowledgeable guide.
We are continually increasing our range of public transport holidays for those who actively choose low-carbon transport. This holiday has been carefully-designed to allow you to experience the wildlife of Mull without a car, by linking up with two small group, full day tours - one on land and one at sea.
