Description of Zambia 8 day safari holiday
Explore two of Zambia’s best national parks with game drives, river activities and incredible walking safaris, on a one-week safari tour of South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi.
Starting in South Luangwa, you’ll take part in morning, evening and night game drives (a rare specialty only found in a few national parks in the whole of Africa), the latter of which offers the unique opportunity to see nocturnal predators, such as big cats, come to life after dark.
On Zambia’s famous walking safaris you’ll be able to spot elephants, hippos, buffalo, giraffe, as well as a variety of birdlife, amongst many other species. Then, take a trip to Kawaza village to learn about the region’s handmade textile pieces and buy some authentic Zambian souvenirs.
Moving on to Lower Zambezi National Park, the safari adventure continues with more game drives and bush walks, but also with river activities along the Zambezi. Try a canoe safari and drift down the currents with crocs and hippos, watching as creatures come to drink at the river. Opt for a fishing excursion to hook a prize tigerfish, then relax with sundowners on an iconic sunset river cruise.

Itinerary
| Day 1: | Arrival in Zambia & Transfer to South Luangwa National Park - Arriving into capital city Lusaka, you’ll take a domestic flight to Mfuwe and a private transfer to South Luangwa National Park. You’ll be staying at Luangwa River Camp, right on the banks of the scenic Luangwa River. This private and intimate safari camp consists of just five bush suites, located next to the game-rich Luangwa Wafwe area, so there will be plenty of wildlife drifting in and out of view. |
| Day 2: | Exploring South Luangwa National Park - One of the best safari destinations on the continent, South Luangwa is right at the end of Africa’s Great Rift Valley, with the river winding through the vast parklands – making for epic landscapes. This abounding natural beauty also attracts wildlife and huge concentrations of big game favourites can be found here, including giraffe, elephant, hippo, leopard and lion. Take a morning or evening game drive to explore different regions of the park and participate in a walking safari to learn about the environment in more detail. |
| Day 3: | Transfer to Tena Tena, South Luangwa National Park - Heading deeper into the park, you’ll move on to your next accommodation, Tena Tena. Buried deep in the exclusive Nsefu Sector of South Luangwa, this luxury safari camp is the flagship property of famed safari enthusiasts, Robin Pope Safaris, and offers an insight into a restricted section of the national park. |
| Day 4: | Exploring South Luangwa National Park - Spend your last full day in South Luangwa with more game drives and bush walks, then take a trip to Kawaza village to learn about the tribal textiles produced by local craftspeople, painted by hand with designs inspired by the region’s wildlife – these make for fantastic souvenirs. If you’re travelling with kids, a great place to visit is the Wildlife Education Centre. |
| Day 5: | Transfer to Lower Zambezi National Park - Leaving South Luangwa, you’ll take a domestic flight from Mfuwe to Jeki via Lusaka, followed by a private transfer to Lower Zambezi National Park. You’ll stay at the five-star Potato Bush Camp, a luxury safari property comprised of just three spacious tents, complete with private plunge pools. After sunset, take a night game drive to see nocturnal wildlife such as African wildcats, genets, civets, honey badgers, porcupines and maybe even a rare pangolin. |
| Day 6: | Exploring Lower Zambezi National Park - Enjoy the Zambezi River on your doorstep with canoe safaris, boat trips, fishing excursions and sunset river cruises. With “floating sundowners” you can relax on the deck of the boat, gin and tonic in hand, watching bathing pods of hippos and looking out for lurking crocodiles. You might even see elephants splashing in the waters, or crossing the river to Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools on the other side. |
| Day 7: | Exploring Lower Zambezi National Park - Don’t miss the chance to explore the Lower Zambezi region on foot as part of an intrepid walking safari. Once you leave the safety of the vehicle, everything changes and you’ll be treated to wildlife watching and safari experiences you can’t experience from the backseat of a jeep. Discover the tiny lizards and insects which also call the park home, learn about plantlife and ecosystems, then examine tracks and scat to understand how rangers track wildlife. |
| Day 8: | Departure from Zambia - Your one-week Zambia safari adventure comes to a close, with a private transfer back to Jeki and a domestic flight to Lusaka’s international airport. With a taste of two of the country’s best safari destinations, you’ll return home with a camera full of photos and a heart full of memories, with plenty to tell loved ones upon your return. |

Take a trip to South Luangwa’s Wildlife Education Centre, where you can learn about conservation whilst supporting local schools through your entrance fee.
