Our Egypt holidays & tours

Egypt’s ancient landmarks will always take centre stage on trips – so our holidays help preserve them. Our ever-popular Nile cruises go to Aswan and Luxor, using only small ships or feluccas which reduce pollution, erosion and crowding. And whether touring the Pyramids of Giza or Nubian villages, we use expert local guides adept at explaining customs and traditions, and putting the ‘story’ into the history. Families diving in the Red Sea, meanwhile, stay at our eco-friendly resorts where instructors prioritise the well-being of the reefs. Here’s to another 5,000 years of history.

About our Egypt holidays

History & ancient culture in Egypt

Egypt is the cradle of more than 5,000 years of history and culture, a sophisticated civilisation far older than those of Greece and Rome. But it’s not all dusty museums and dark chambers – Our holidays make Egyptian history and culture really come to life. You’ll visit a Nubian village and get to know the modern culture of the country in the back streets of Cairo, just as you’ll spend time at Abu Simbel and exploring Luxor Temple. Our local guides will illuminate the ancient temples, monuments and tombs, and tell the story of Egypt’s pharaohs, people and gods.

Luxor & Valley of the Kings

Our holidays use guides who care deeply about preserving the sites, and will help you travel responsibly through these priceless places. Many of them have degrees of Egyptology: who better to introduce you to the Luxor area, which has been settled since Homer’s time? Luxor Temple occupies the centre of the city, while the vast Temple of Karnak, one of the largest religious complexes in the world, stands in the desert just outside. Then there’s the labyrinthine Valley of the Kings, where many of Egypt’s best-known rulers were entombed, including Ramses II and Tutankhamun.

Pyramids of Giza & the Sphinx

The most iconic symbol of Egypt, and among the most recognisable monuments on Earth, the Pyramids of Giza would be a stunning feat of architecture and engineering today, let alone when they were built, nearly 5,000 years ago. Testament to the sophisticated civilisation of the ancient Egyptians, the three Giza pyramids stand just outside Cairo, and are joined by dozens more in the surrounding desert, as well as the enigmatic Sphinx. This huge limestone statue has the body of a lion and the head of a man, though no-one knows where its nose has got to. You will have the opportunity to climb down right inside the pyramids if you wish, although your guide will not be able to join you, due to limited numbers.

Cruising down the Nile

In bygone days, Victorian tourists sailed along the banks of the Nile. Today, our river cruises can still be as sedate, opulent and romantic – because we stick to small ships that don’t create a wake that erodes the river bank, or disgorge hundreds of passengers and swamp the ancient sites. Come aboard one of our sail-powered feluccas: a traditional and completely eco-friendly way to sail the Nile. Our cruises usually encompass Edfu, Kom Ombo and Abu Simbel on their voyages between Luxor and Aswan, and last up to a week.

Take the family

Kids will be entranced by the Pyramids of Giza or the temples of Luxor. Crack mummy jokes together at the pyramids and listen while our expert guides entertain and inform with tales from Ancient Egypt. Enjoy the breeze tickling your hair as you sleep on deck with a felucca cruise on the Nile. Or take scuba diving lessons in the Red Sea, where our family dive holidays only use very small groups, to minimise damage to the reef. Plus your kids will learn to remove plastic and help tidy the reef, whilst also meeting all their amazing colourful inhabitants.

Types of trips in Egypt

The expert local guides who accompany our small group holidays are skilled at bringing ancient history to life with enviable troves of knowledge. Our cultural holidays naturally cover pyramids and pharaohs, but also offer insights through meals in Nubian homes and atmospheric overnight trains. Culture and history abound on our Nile cruising holidays. For a different take on Egypt, Dahab is one of the best locations for diving in the Red Sea, with a seaside village feel and beautifully clear waters rich in marine life.
